Stuff the Bus for Toys for Tots | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
In Lackawanna County, people came together Tuesday to help give children a brighter holiday season.
People driving through downtown Scranton may have seen it. The big green trolley parked on Lackawanna Avenue attracted tons of people who wanted to "Stuff the Bus."
"It's something I like to do. I do it every year, for all the obvious reasons. It's important to give to those less fortunate, and who go without this season," said Kylie McColligan of Scranton.
It's all part of the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.
With the help of the County of Lackawanna Transit System, or COLTS, the Marines were able to set up the trolley for the day.
People brought new, unwrapped toys and filled several bins on the bus.
Seven of them were filled to the top.
People also gave their cold hard cash to help children who are less fortunate.
"Every child should have something under the tree on Christmas morning, whether it's a book or toy, just something to know that people care," said Gretchen Wintermantel of COLTS.
The Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program serves eight counties in our area and it hopes to reach up to 22,000 children this holiday season
"There's probably families out there that aren't able to support their kids as much as they would like to. That's what Toys for Tots is here to do, to pick up the slack for those families," said Marine Lance Corporal Jayson Braun.
