Police Investigate Deadly Stabbing
News

Police are investigating a homicide after a fight between two men ended with one of them dead.

A 19 year old was stabbed and died not long after. Now his friends are wondering how any kind of dispute could lead to this.

The fight happened late Wednesday night in Lackawanna County.

Investigators said Dylan Ostrowski, 19, of Carbondale admits he got into the fight with another 19 year old, pulled a knife, stabbed and killed the victim. He is charged with the homicide of Lawrence Atkinson.

Police spent part of Thursday afternoon searching streets in Jessup near the crime scene looking for a weapon.

Afterwards, Ostrowski told investigators he ditched the knife outside of a daycare center in Olyphant.

His friends felt the need to come to the park Thursday where police said that fight turned into a deadly stabbing.

"It's a shock for everyone. Why would someone do this. It can't even be explained," said friend Jonahtan Sureth.

"Me and my friend were at the hospital this morning after. He was already pronounced dead but it was just a horrible place there. We just didn't know what else to do. We just came up here to check it out to see if we could see anything, find anything around," said friend Bobby Coulthard.

There is not much to find at Kids Corner Park except some blood stains.

Police said witnesses saw Ostrowski get out of a car with a knife and when the fight started, he stabbed the victim quickly.

Now friends mourn a 19 year old.

"He was a very loving and caring kid, he loved his friends and family he would do anything for them whenever they need anything. It was just a horrible thing to lose such a great kid," Coulthard added.

"He was a good friend to everyone.  He loved everyone, he loved his mother. His mother is a good person. It's just horrible," said Atkinson's friend Stephen Welsch.

Friends said the fight involved some girls, but they can't understand how any kind of a dispute might lead Ostroski to stab and kill their friend.

"I want everyone to remember him as someone who shouldn't have lost their life this early. It was a great loss to the world," Coulthard said.

Newswatch 16 has copies of graphic posts from Facebook, an online social site, from people who know Ostrowski and may have been at the fight.

Many reference a "fight" and "drama" between Valley View High School girls that may have sparked the knifing.

Troopers said the investigation is ongoing and it's possible they may charge more people.
