Crash Closes Part of Casey Highway

Police in Lackawanna County suspect alcohol played a part in a crash Thursday morning that injured two people.

It happened just before 9 a.m. on the Casey Highway in Archbald.

Police said Michael Whalley, 28, of Carbondale was apparently speeding when he lost control of his car and went off the road.  The car rolled several times and hit an exit sign.

Whalley's passenger,  17-year-old boy from Carbondale was thrown from the car and trapped beneath it.

Both people were taken to the hospital.

Casey Highway was closed in that area all morning as investigators reconstructed the crash.

Police ask anyone who may have seen the crash to call PSP Dunmore at 570-963-3156.
