Valley View Boy's Track and Field | News
Talk about winning streaks in track and field and Lewisburg's dominance on the girl's side comes to mind and for the boy's everyone trying to catch up with Valley View. The Cougars have several wins already in the season.
The call out from the Cougars can be heard loud and clear. Their message is simple, come and compete, because this team is on a mission.
"Depth is key this year. That's what we have a lot of this year. A lot of depth on our team lots of depth in all these events, and you know first is great, but we look at it as a team sport here at Valley View and getting second and thirds paying off thru out a meet," said Valley View boy's track and field coach Brian Kearney.
Prior to the Scranton Prep meet the Valley View track team has won 37 meets in a row, the record in the Lackawanna league is 51 held by Lakeland and Valley View is fast approaching that number.
"What Coach Kearney does to the team is incredible, I mean, I always walk into his classroom in the winter he'll be in there during the winter putting the track schedule together already. I mean he lives and breaths track and field he really puts it upon us to carry it out," said Aaron Wilkinson.
"I think everyone is looking to knock us off and end that streak, it means a lot to us. We have such respect for Lakeland. My wife ran there, I live in Lakeland school district now so I know what a great program they have and what a great coach Phil Tochelli was up there and the job that he did so it means a lot to us. If we could get to that mark really important really says a lot about our program and the kids that have run for me," said Kearney.
He took over a program 8 years ago with only 14 boys and the growth started during 6th grade recess, kinda of a track and field tryout. Trying to see what kids wanted to run or throw. The results have been incredible.
"It's a really nice streak, like I came here we we're like 20 and something, now we're just trying to continue the tradition and catch Lakeland get up there at 51," said Nyeem Wartman.
Coach Kearney has proudly produced a champion. Valley view is looking to capture it's 6th straight league title and a 3rd district title in a row moving up from AA to AAA this year.
